About Compost C:N Calculator
The perfect compost pile has a Carbon-to-Nitrogen ratio of roughly 25:1 to 30:1. Too much Nitrogen = smelly slime. Too much Carbon = slow decomposition.
Common Materials
- Browns (Carbon): Leaves (60:1), Sawdust (400:1), Paper (170:1).
- Greens (Nitrogen): Grass Clippings (20:1), Kitchen Scraps (15:1), Manure (15:1).
How to Use
Enter the volumes (buckets) of "Green" and "Brown" materials you have. The tool estimates the resulting pile ratio.
